Welcome to Victor Central Schools!

It seems like only yesterday we bid farewell to the Class of 2010! While, hopefully, you have been enjoying the summer season, many dedicated staff have continued working right along in preparation for the 2010-2011 school year. The VCS staff is committed to bringing your children the best that education has to offer by combining real-world technologies with authentic global experiences. We have been writing new curriculums, setting up new classrooms and honing our professional skills.

As you know, the entire VCS community is known for giving its best. Whether our students are excelling academically, artistically, athletically, or making a difference with community service, I continue to be amazed by the energy, enthusiasm and commitment by students, staff, parents and community members alike.

This year, I witnessed so many examples of excellence, both inside and outside of the classroom. The Class of 2010 continued this tradition of excellence with 95% earning a Regents Diploma. Of that group, 64% earned a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation and 29% earned a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors*.

Graduating seniors were not the only students who made a big impression this past year. Excellence was everywhere. At the Early Childhood Education Center, our youngest learners showed us their emerging math skills at a special Kindergarten Family Math Night and raised pennies for earthquake-torn Haiti. At the Primary School, students expressed their interest and understanding of the world around them by holding a Harambe celebration. This creative and caring group of students also raised money to provide polio vaccinations in third world countries.

Our Intermediate Students were equally excellent, celebrating not only Disability Awareness Week, but raising thousands of dollars at their annual Skate for Heart fundraiser for the American Heart Association and their first ever Walk for Juvenile Diabetes. At the Junior and Senior High, students continued the call for community service by raising money for Haiti, diabetes and holding various food and clothing drives.

Whether they were raising money for a good cause or raising the bar on excellence like our Girls Varsity Volleyball team did by becoming New York State champions for the second year in a row, VCS students always rise to the occasion to not only do their best, but be their best. You could see it at this past year’s STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, Math) Fair, the Junior High School’s New York State School to Watch re-designation ceremony, The Mark Wood Music Experience, Make A Difference Day, Senior Citizens Day, the Victor Cares Carnival, the list goes on and on and on!

The past year has been exceptional, to say the least. As I begin my second year as Superintendent of Victor Schools, I am confident that the coming year will be filled with equally wonderful opportunities and experiences.

On behalf of the VCS Board of Education and staff, welcome back!

Take care,

Dawn A. Santiago-Marullo, Ed.D.
