Victor Intermediate School provides an environment that encourages students to become successful learners as they develop the strategies needed to make responsible decisions and choices. Learning and instruction are based on carefully sequenced curricula that focus on core subject areas in addition to music, art, physical education, and computer technology. Students access the library and media resource centers in conjunction with study units delivered in the classroom. Victor Intermediate is home to over 850 students in grades 4 through 6 and has more than 90 staff members.
While Victor’s optional string instrumental instruction program continues, the optional band instrumental instruction program begins at the Intermediate School. Beyond individual instruction, interested students may also participate in orchestra, band, and chorus.
At each grade level, certain concepts, skills and content are addressed that will help prepare students as citizens. Over the three years that students spend at the Intermediate School, they receive exposure to New York State geography, regional geographical formations, the Iroquois Confederacy, explorers, and the concepts related to the United States, Canada, and Latin America. In sixth grade, students develop an understanding of the interdependence of all people, focusing on Western and Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Science is a hands-on, interdisciplinary curriculum that is student-centered. Classroom experiences include the use of science kits as well as experiments devised by the faculty. Specific concepts include animal life cycles, plants and minerals, electricity, powders and crystals, space and rocketry, oceanography, heredity, sound and light, weather, and contour maps.
An exposure to foreign languages begins for students in grade six. Students receive instruction in both French and Spanish for 10 weeks each.
Victor Intermediate School offers classroom settings arranged to meet the educational, social, emotional, and physical needs of each student. A variety of placement options are available to students. Each option provides a classroom setting that includes a broad range of learners, each with unique strengths, and perspectives that can be shared with their peers.
