At Victor Primary we are not only concerned with your child’s academic growth, but also with his or her development as a total human being. This includes emotional and social well-being, a sense of responsibility, appropriate behavior and physical aptitude. To accomplish this, we work together as a team to foster a “positively primary” environment for all.
Victor Primary is home to over 900 students in Kindergarten through third grade and has over 100 staff members that are committed to providing the best possible education and environment for your child.
Curriculum and instruction at Victor Primary School focuses on core subject areas in addition to music, art, physical education, and computer technology. Use of the library and media resource center is scheduled in conjunction with the learning units that are delivered in the classroom. Enrichment opportunities are offered in various ways including discovery quests, classroom initiatives and 1:1 student support. Students may also take part in an optional instrumental string program.
Language arts instruction is geared toward creating lifelong readers, writers, and effective communicators. Reading, writing, listening and speaking are taught in an integrated fashion to reinforce one another. Children are given many opportunities to experience quality literature and develop a continuum of skills in all areas.
In mathematics, the primary goal is to help students develop problem-solving skills that will support lifelong learning. An emphasis is put on the value of mathematics and its usefulness in everyday life. In social studies, concepts, skills and content are presented through interdisciplinary units that incorporate other subject areas. Students gain the knowledge, skills, civic understandings, and dispositions necessary to become responsible citizens within America’s constitutional democracy and an increasingly diverse society. Science lessons enable students to understand and apply scientific principles, concepts, and skills pertaining to the physical and living environment.
Using a developmental approach to learning, teachers make decisions in the classroom based upon their knowledge and understanding of child development. This involves the use of strategies adapted to pupils’ learning styles, levels of development, needs and interests, while capitalizing on the students’ spontaneity and intellectual excitement.
Victor Primary School is organized into school family units to create a more personal learning environment. Within these school families, Victor Primary School offers classroom environments based on a variety of models, all of which are characterized by instructional practices that recognize and enhance a child’s development.
