VIS Book SwapR

VIS Families:

As you are aware, promoting literacy and independent reading has been a significant focus at VIS in recent years.  We are fortunate to have an outstanding Library/Media Center and many rich texts across classrooms which support this work each and every day.

To further build upon reading opportunities, the VIS Bulding Council, which is comprised of parents, teachers, and administrators hopes to establish a VIS Book Swap prior to the end of the 2018-19 school year.  Many neighborhoods are engaging in such book exchanges and they prove to be an excellent way to connect families with diverse reading opportunities.

As we approach parent conferences, I encourage both parents and students to donate gently used books you may have accumulating in your home.  Books ranging from grade 1 through grade 8 would be ideal in meeting the needs of our students.  After the Thanksgiving break, you will find a drop box near the main entrance and books can also be left with classroom teachers when you visit for upcoming conferences.  Later in the year, we hope to create drop boxes that will be located in various parts of the building; certainly books can be donated at anytime by students or parents.

We are also excited about the fact we hope to engage students in the process of managing and organizing donated books.  The VIS Builidng Council greatly appreciates your help in making this reading opportunity possible for our students.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

VIS Building Council
