Letter from Tom Turner:
Good Evening,
I was wondering if you could share this with your viewers? Dear Friends, On behalf of the 30th Reunion Planning Committee, I’m writing to provide an update on the reunion. The Committee has met virtually over the last several months to explore venues, create a comprehensive contact list for the class, and consider timing for the event. During our most recent meeting, we weighed the pros and cons of holding the event this Fall versus Spring 2021.
Although we are anxious to get everyone together and ideally would like to have had the event soon, we are concerned that the pandemic will make the event much less than ideal. First, we do not know whether large gatherings will be allowed or whether physical distancing will still be required. Having an event with all of us in masks and not able to even hug after 30 years is not what we were envisioning. Second, having the event this Fall risks excluding classmates who are at high risk of becoming ill or who live with loved ones that are at high risk. Also, many classmates will need to travel by plane and that raises its own risks. Finally, the venues we spoke with said that we would lose our deposit if we canceled due to COVID-19. For these reasons, we believe it is best to hold the event in Spring 2021 by which time we hopefully will have a vaccine and it will be safe for all of us to have the kind of event we had hoped for.
We are currently comparing prices for venues in the Spring (avoiding holidays). We will be back in touch soon regarding the final date. In the meantime, we would work welcome your input on the ideal month (April-June). We will also follow up with you as our contact list work is completed to let you know if there are any individuals for which we have not been able to find contact information. Stay well!
