Special Education Department

The mission of the Special Education Department is to deliver exceptional special education programs and services tailored to meet the academic, social-emotional, physical, and behavioral needs of students with disabilities within the least restrictive environmentThe department is  dedicated to creating an educational environment that welcomes, accepts, and understands the unique qualities of every child. Inclusive opportunities benefit all students by promoting a sense of belonging, encouraging positive social relationships, and enabling each student to reach their full potential. 

As a result of participating in the VSCD Special Education Program, the student will, with increasing independence, be able to:

  • Enhanced Academic Achievement: Improve performance and mastery in core subjects through individualized instruction and tailored learning strategies.
  • Developed Social-Emotional Skills: Build resilience, self-awareness, and emotional regulation to foster positive social interactions and personal growth.
  • Improved Communication Skills: Strengthen verbal and non-verbal communication abilities to effectively express needs, ideas, and emotions.
  • Increased Independence: Gain skills and strategies to perform daily tasks and make informed decisions, promoting greater self-sufficiency.
  • Successful Navigation of Social Situations: Enhance abilities to manage and engage in complex social interactions, building lasting relationships.
  • Effective Use of Resources: Learn to identify and access community resources and support systems to aid in personal and academic development.
  • Goal-Oriented Perseverance: Develop the persistence and problem-solving skills necessary to overcome obstacles and achieve personal and academic goals.
  • Adaptive Problem-Solving: Cultivate the ability tCS
  • Transferable Skills: Apply learned strategies, academic knowledge, and skills effectively across different environments and situations
