A Shared Commitment to Safety and Security

The safety of every student, staff member, and visitor is the top priority for the Victor Central School District. We believe that a secure learning environment is a community effort, built on a foundation of clear policies, proactive communication, and continuous collaboration.

Partners Together

Our students and families are our greatest partners in prevention. Often, you are the first to know about a potential concern. We encourage everyone to live by the principle of "See something, say something." Whether it's a social media post, a conversation you've overheard, or a behavioral change in a friend, reporting a concern to a trusted adult—a teacher, a counselor, a coach, or an administrator—is a crucial step in keeping our community safe.

Parent-student-school communication is key to preventing violence and addressing concerns before they escalate. If you notice troubling behaviors or have concerns about your child's well-being, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's school counselor or Principal. By working together, we can ensure your child gets the help they need to prevent potential escalation and keep our schools secure.

Districtwide School Safety Plan

Our district-wide safety plan is a comprehensive guide that outlines our procedures for a variety of emergency situations. This plan was developed in collaboration with local law enforcement, emergency responders, and school officials. The safety and well-being of our school community are our top priorities, and we continuously review and update our plan to ensure we are prepared for any situation.

Visiting a School

We welcome visitors to our campus. As part of our access control measures, all visitors must check in at the main office. Please be prepared to state the nature of your visit, show photo identification, and receive a visitor's badge that must be worn at all times while in the building.

Safety and Security Measures

The Victor Central School District is constantly training, updating, and adding new procedures to our safety and security plans. We work closely with local law enforcement, including the Ontario County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police, to review and enhance our measures. Below are some of the key security enhancements and procedures in place:

  • Controlled Access: All Victor school buildings have controlled access through secure vestibules. Intercom systems and controlled access through the main doors are in place at all buildings.
  • Visitor Screening: All visitors must be screened at the main entrance and receive a visitor badge. A computer-based visitor photo badge system is used at all schools to ensure we know who is in our buildings at all times.
  • Law Enforcement Partnership: Our school district employs a School Resource Officer from the Ontario County Sheriff's Department. Also, all Ontario County Sheriff's Office deputies and New York State Troopers have full access to our school properties and have an increased presence on our campuses. This regular presence helps these partners familiarize themselves with our schools, staff, and students.
  • Video Surveillance: We have security video equipment and personnel to monitor school property, with cameras strategically placed to enhance our ability to review and respond to incidents. The location and number of cameras are continuously reviewed with law enforcement.
  • Continuous Training: We provide ongoing training for all staff about the importance of keeping exterior doors locked and promoting a single point of entry. We also conduct regular entrance and exit audits.
  • Background Checks: All employees are required to be fingerprinted as part of a thorough background check.
  • Emergency Preparedness Training: We have enhanced and improved safety protocols and training for substitute teachers, ensuring they are prepared for a variety of situations.
  • Intruder Locks: Intruder locks have been installed in classrooms throughout our buildings to provide an immediate means of securing a room in an emergency.

Emergency Preparedness and Communication

Victor Central School District has a comprehensive emergency response plan that is regularly practiced with faculty, staff, and students. We conduct drills with the support of the Town and Village of Victor and our local fire department. The district also routinely trains with experts from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police and a consortium of security professionals from throughout the region to continuously improve our protocols and procedures.

In the event of an emergency, the district uses ParentSquare to alert parents and staff through phone calls, voice messages, emails, and text alerts. As needed, we will also work with local radio and television stations to share emergency information.
