Mandated Water Mitigation Project Completed – 3/24/21
Every five years, the New York State Health Department requires all public school districts to test drinking water for lead contamination and to take action if lead levels are above their accepted 15ppb (parts per billion) threshold. This winter, Stohl Environmental sampled all VCS faucets in student occupied buildings where someone could potentially drink from the tap and their results showed we had 34 out of 692 outlets above the accepted threshold. Per Health Department guidelines VCS shut down those 34 outlets for remediation.
All thirty four outlets that had results over the threshold of 15ppb (parts per billion) have been remediated. One drinking fountain was permanently removed. All other outlets have been replaced with a new faucet. Each new faucet was retested for lead and all of the results were below the 15 ppb threshold.
