On Thursday, January 14, 2021, the Victor Central School District Board of Education appointed Derek Vallese as the new Assistant Superintendent for Business effective February 15, 2021. Vallese will replace Richard Stutzman who has been the Acting Assistant Superintendent for Business since July, 2020. We thank Mr. Stutzman for his outstanding leadership during this time.
Vallese comes to VCS with more than a decade of financial experience and critical skill sets in accounting, budgeting, operations, reporting and negotiations. From 2010 to 2014, he worked in the private sector as a Services Coordinator, Auditor and Staff Accountant. In 2014, he joined the Newfane Central School District where he served as District and Central Treasurer for five years overseeing a $36 million budget. Vallese became the School Business Official for the Albion Central School District in 2019 where he currently oversees a $36.8 million budget, 1,850 students and 270 employees.
Prior to entering the workforce Vallese studied at Niagara University where he earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration (Accounting) in 2010 and a Masters of Business Administration (Accounting) in 2013. Vallese continued his studies at University at Buffalo where he earned a Masters of Educational Administration in 2018 and a Certificate of Advanced Studies (School District Business Leader) in 2019.
VCS Superintendent, Dr. Tim Terranova, said, “Derek brings the best of both worlds to VCS. He not only has an exceptional financial background but also has outstanding interpersonal skills and strong character that support effective collaboration with all constituents. This will make him a fantastic addition to the VCS administrative team.”
Vallese said he is grateful to be joining the VCS team. “Victor is a highly regarded district with bright young students and caring staff. I am honored to continue our mission, to teach, to learn, to support, to improve, and to achieve,” he said.
In addition to Mr. Vallese’s hire, on Thursday, January 14, 2021, the VCS Board of Education also appointed Matt DeAmaral to the position of District Treasurer, effective February 16, 2021. DeAmaral comes to VCS from the Churchville-Chili School District where he has been that District’s Treasurer since 2016. DeAmaral will replace longtime District Treasurer, Lynne Lubaszewski, who is set to retire on March 30, 2021 after 29 years of dedicated service to the District.
We welcome Mr. Vallese and Mr. DeAmaral to the VCS community.
