VCS Names New Director of Technology

On Thursday, May 14, 2020, the Victor Central School District Board of Education appointed Angela Affronti, as the new Director of Technology for the District, effective July 1, 2020.  Affronti replaces longtime VCS Director of Technology, David Henderson, who will retire in July.

Affronti, comes to VCS with more than twelve years of experience in education. For the past three years (2017-2020), she has served as the Instructional Technology Integration and Communication Specialist for Cortland Enlarged City School District. There, she worked directly with the Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction planning and deploying Chromebooks as one-to-one devices. She also led the Technology Planning Committee, implemented Project Based Learning and co-authored the Professional Development Plan and Technology Integration Plan for the district.

From 2015-2020, Affronti also worked simultaneously as an Instructional Technology Integration Specialist for the Central New York Regional Information Center/ Onondaga-Cortland-Madison (OCM) BOCES where she shared her knowledge and expertise with four other school districts in the consortium.

Affronti said thoughtful technology integration in our schools has never been more important than it is today. “My ultimate goal is to enhance the technology integration at VCS, and have our students develop 21st century skills: to think critically, work collaboratively, and solve real world problems.”

Prior to working in instructional technology, Affronti held a variety of other education posts. During the summer of 2015, she was the Summer School Principal for OCM BOCES. From 2013 to 2016, she acted as the Graduation Coach for Ithaca High School. During the 2013-2014 school year, she was the Intern Principal at Ithaca High School, and in 2013 she was the Intern Principal at the  Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga (TST) BOCES in Ithaca.

Affronti’s foray into education began in the classroom in 2008. She was a tenured Social Studies teacher for Ithaca High School from 2008 to 2013. In 2012, she was also a teacher for TST BOCES in Ithaca. In addition to teaching, from 2008 to 2011, Affronti was the Assistant Varsity Track and Field Coach for Ithaca High School and Modified Track and Field Coach for that district.

Affronti earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Studies Education and New York State Professional Certification in Social Studies (grades 7-12) from Ithaca College in 2007. While attending Ithaca, Affronti was a prominent collegiate athlete, running cross-country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field all four years. During her senior year, she was named Captain of her team, leading the Bombers to four Empire 8 and NYSCTC championships under Coach Jennifer Potter.

After graduating from Ithaca, in 2008, Affronti earned her Master’s Degree in Literacy Education and NYS Professional Certification in Literacy (grades 5-12) from New York University. In 2013, she went on to earn a Certificate of Advanced Studies and NYS Professional Certification for School District Leadership and NYS School Building Leader from SUNY Cortland.

Affronti said she is grateful for the opportunity to join the VCS team.

"I would like to thank Superintendent Terranova and the members of the search committee for believing in my ability to be the next Director of Technology for the Victor Central School District. I have been grateful for my time at Cortland Enlarged City School District, under the mentorship of Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Jeffrey S. Craig, Ed. D. I look forward to bringing the skills and knowledge I have developed during my time at Cortland to this exciting leadership opportunity at VCS,” she said.

Affronti, who is originally from the Rochester area, said that being able to work at an excellent district like VCS is an exciting homecoming of sorts for her. “Me, my husband Dan, and our Chihuahua Luna, are excited to be coming home!"
