On Thursday, June 9th, 2022, the Victor Central School District Board of Education appointed Shannon Markin-McMurtrie as the District’s new Director of Secondary Special Education. Markin-McMurtrie comes to VCS from the Rochester City School District where she has worked for more than fourteen years, most recently as their Associate Director of Special Education.
Prior to being the RCSD Associate Director of Special Education, Markin-McMurtrie was their Commencement School Summer Principal, Assistant Principal and Principal for their Extended School Year Program, and a Special Education Building Administrator. In addition, she served as a Special Education teacher from 2008 to 2018.
VCS Superintendent, Dr. Tim Terranova said, “Shannon brings a wealth of experience to our special education program, including extensive experience working as a secondary special education teacher and three years of leadership as an Associate Director of Special Education. This background, along with her collaborative spirit, allows her to roll up her sleeves and work collaboratively with teachers to support our children at the highest levels.”
Markin-McMurtrie said she is pleased and honored to be joining the Victor Central School District as the Director of Secondary Special Education. “I have devoted my entire career to advancing the education of students with disabilities, and I am excited to continue this work in Victor, the place my family and I call home. I look forward to collaborating with parents, students, and the entire Victor School Central School District team to create innovative opportunities ensuring that all students can achieve their full potential,” she said.
