VIS Kicks Off 17th Annual Community Read

On Friday, September 10th, the Intermediate School kicked off its’ 17th annual Community Read with a building-wide Zoom assembly!

The Community Read is common read aloud that is shared by all VIS teachers and students at the start of the new school year. This year’s book is Eat Bugs, Project Startup by Laura D’Asaro, and Rose Wang.

Maggie Elliott, VIS Library Media Specialist, said the book focuses on entrepreneurship and is based on the real-life experiences of two women who pitched their idea on the popular TV show, Shark Tank. “This book is just re-imagined with Middle-Grade School students competing in a Pitch project in their class,” Elliott said.

All month long, students will engage in a variety of classroom activities relative to book’s theme. On October 13th, the Intermediate School will host a virtual author visit.
