Weekly Message from the Superintendent

March 6, 2026

Hello Everyone,

It has been a truly remarkable week across our district. This week’s update includes student achievement, staff recognition, and highlights of the coming week.

First, a reminder that our Theater Arts Department presents Mean Girls tonight at 7 pm with additional performances at 1:00 and 7:00 pm tomorrow. Tickets can be purchased on our website. Although Mean Girls is an appropriate musical for high school, it does include mature, high school-related themes. Please consider this when bringing younger children to the performance.

In addition, we are giving a heartfelt farewell to Steve Slavny, who will be stepping down as District Safety Coordinator effective July 1, 2026. Over the past four years, Steve has been instrumental in building our safety team and infrastructure, leading our security efforts with a steadfast commitment to protecting our students and staff.

Steve has always put students first and has been an amazing advocate for our community throughout his thirteen years with us, which followed twenty-three years of distinguished service with the New York State Police. While his decision to step down is bittersweet, we are immensely grateful for his decades of public service and the leadership that has left a lasting impact on our district. To ensure we continue the vital work he has championed, we will officially post for the District Safety Coordinator position next week.

The excellence demonstrated by our staff is mirrored by the achievements of our students. Gianna Arnitz was awarded the prestigious Victor Central School District Senior of the Year award this past Thursday at the WFL BOCES Conference Center. Each school district in the region nominates one senior for this award based on leadership, scholarship, and service toward others. Gianna was chosen because she excels in all three areas.

In addition, Gianna was one of seven honorees from across the region to earn an additional scholarship award. The scholarship, from the law firm Ferrara Fiorenza, is valued at one thousand dollars.  She is an amazing young adult, and it was a pleasure honoring her and her family at this event.

In that same spirit of student excellence, congratulations to our DECA club! Forty-three Victor Senior High School students competed yesterday and today at the New York State DECA Career Conference, joining more than 3,000 of the top business students from across the state. We are proud to share that 11 Victor students earned DECA Glass, qualifying them for the International Career Development Conference held in Atlanta, Georgia in April. In addition, three students placed in the Top 10 in their event, and nine more earned multiple medals!

Our students are able to reach these heights because of the incredible support systems surrounding them, and this week marks National School Social Worker’s Week. We want to recognize the compassion our social workers bring to our families every day. These dedicated professionals support the emotional well-being of our students, while also supporting families and our greater community. They form an essential support network that is critical to the success of our District.

Finally, we have an exciting week ahead. Good luck to the varsity Boys Basketball team who plays in the sectional championship game tomorrow (Saturday) at 9:00 am at the Blue Cross Arena and all of our individual athletes competing in state competition across our region. In addition, the District Strings Concert is Thursday, March 12th in the VSH gymnasium. It includes a special recognition of our amazing Suzuki Strings program’s 60th anniversary.

Friday, March 13th is a Superintendent’s Conference Day, which means there will be no school for students. Lastly, don’t forget that Daylight Saving time begins this Sunday, which means set your clocks ahead by one hour.

I hope you have a great weekend! If you have any questions, please reach out to me.

With gratitude,

Tim
