New York State Assessment Program & Examination Schedule
New York State’s general education regulations and diploma requirements outline what is necessary to obtain a diploma in New York State. Regents exams measure student achievement in high school-level courses.
Every spring, the Grades 3-8 English Language Arts (ELA),Mathematics and science Tests are administered to students across New York State. These annual ELA, math and science tests for students in grades 3-8 are required by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015. Although assessments represent only a small part of the total picture, the tests are designed to measure how well students are mastering the learning standards that guide classroom instruction and help to ensure that students are on track to graduate from high school.
Advanced Placement (AP)
The Advanced Placement (AP) program was created by college board in 1955 to provide students with college-level work in high school. The Victor Central School District is committed to the principle that all students deserve an opportunity to participate in rigorous and academically challenging courses and programs. All students who are willing to accept the challenge of a rigorous academic curriculum should consider admission to AP and Pre-AP courses. Advanced Placement Exams are offered during May of each year. Students may earn college credit for their AP exam scores.
NWEA MAP Growth Assessments
MAP Growth is a computer-based assessment that is taken three times a year, usually at the start of the school year, halfway through, and near the end. This lets teachers get clear snapshots of how students are doing often and early enough that they can adjust their lesson plans as needed. Each question on MAP Growth is generated based on the question—and answer—that came right before it. If a student gets it right, the next one is harder. If they get it wrong, the next one’s easier. While students don’t get a grade on it, they do get a score, which makes it possible to plot their growth over time, whether that’s a single school year or several years in a row.
The Victor Central School District uses the NWEA MAP Growth assessments in math and reading for students in grades 2-6 and n reading only for students in grades 7-8.
AIMSweb Plus
The Victor Central School District uses AIMSweb Plus as a universal screening and progress monitoring tool for Kindergarten and First Grade students. AimswebPlus is designed to assess the basic reading or math skills that are good indicators of overall student performance. These screenings are conducted by classroom teachers and school staff working one-on-one with our students. Results from these assessments help to “inform” the teaching and learning process by providing continuous student performance data.
