Celebrating Black Scholars
Elizabeth Welch

On Thursday, February 5, Victor Senior High School, together with the Urban League of Rochester, held a Black Scholars Recognition Celebration at the VJHS/VSHS Performing Arts Center. Twenty-six students were honored.

For over four decades, the Urban League of Rochester Black Scholars Program has recognized students who achieve and maintain a B average (83% or higher) throughout their high school career. The Black Scholars program also provides honorees with useful college and career assistance and scholarship incentives.

Congratulations to the following students who were recognized for their academic achievements: Marcus Cochrane, Isabella Counceller, Natalia Hampton, Nathan Harris, Giuliana Heid, Mackenzie Johnson, Kigen Kiptoo, Aislyn Mathis, Fallon Mathis, London McGough, Glenn Minter, Olivia Ofori, Zeidahn Ofori, Tyrie Owens, Silas Parenti, Nyari Pugliesi, Isabelle Rae, Delery Reyes-Vargas, Annikah Sabbour, Deshae Sheldon, Jayden Smalls, Kijako Smith, Sparrow Washpun, Elijah Wethey, Tyshawn Wims, and Jared Yarde.

The Urban League of Rochester aims to increase the number of African American students from the Greater Rochester community who graduate from high school with excellent grades while preparing them for higher education and careers after graduating. The Black Scholars Program is just one way they are doing this.
