VCS Celebrates Autism Awareness Month
Elizabeth Welch

This April, the Victor Central School (VCS) community took its commitment to inclusion beyond the classroom, turning out in force for the Ability Partners Foundation’s 16th Annual Autism Awareness & Acceptance Walk at Eastview Mall.

The event served as a vibrant celebration of diversity, focusing on fostering true acceptance and community belonging.

The heart of this year’s walk was Victor High School sophomore Matt Crane, who served as the event's Honorary Chairman. A dedicated athlete on the VCS unified basketball and bowling teams, Matt was recognized for his leadership and character.

"Matt is an exceptional young adult and a great example of everything this walk represents," said Superintendent Dr. Tim Terranova. "We are thrilled he was selected to lead an event that celebrates diversity while raising vital awareness."

The success of the walk was a team effort, fueled by the passion of students, staff, and families. The Early Childhood School’s 12:1:3 class raised over $400 to support local autism initiatives, while members of the National Honor Society were instrumental in supporting the day’s activities, ensuring the walk remained fun, interactive, and inclusive for all participants.

By participating in this annual tradition, VCS continues to champion a culture where every student is seen and valued.

Congratulations to Matt Crane and the entire VCS family for leading the way!
