VICTOR, NY - On Thursday, May 28, 2026, the Victor Central School District Board of Education officially appointed Michael Santana as the new Coordinator of District Safety.

Santana will succeed Steve Slavny, who is leaving the position after a distinguished career leading our security efforts as a District.  "We are grateful for Mr. Slavny’s dedication, commitment, and service toward the students and staff of our District,” Superintendent Timothy Terranova said. “We cannot thank him enough for his leadership during his time in Victor and wish him well with his future endeavors.”

Santana has worked as a Campus Security Guard for VCS since August of 2023. Mr. Santana has done an exemplary job of ensuring the safety of students, staff, and visitors in this role, with a special focus at the elementary level, where he has not only built relationships with people but also greatly improved overall security across the three buildings.

Prior to his time at Victor, Michael spent over 25 years as a Police Officer for the Rochester Police Department. A large portion of this time was spent as a School Resource Officer in the Rochester City School District, where he was a leader in this program, including involvement as a lead instructor for School Resource training and Public Safety training.

VCS Superintendent, Dr. Tim Terranova commented that throughout his career, Santana has demonstrated high character, the willingness to go above and beyond with preserving the safety of others, and exceptional emotional intelligence. “Based on the rigorous selection process and reference checks, Mr. Santana is someone with high integrity who is extremely organized and has significant leadership skills that will add much value to the safety and security of our school district,” Terranova said.

Santana said that he is humbled and honored to take on the role of Coordinator of District Safety. “My goal is to work with all VCS communities to ensure our campus remains safe while bringing a proactive approach that fosters a supportive environment where everyone can feel safe and thrive. I hope to help strengthen a culture of safety, awareness, and support for students, staff and the entire community," he said.

Santana earned his Bachelor of Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in Applied Science and Technology and a concentration in Criminal Justice. He also spent eight years in the United States Air Force Reserves as a Staff Sergeant, Weapons Instructor, and Combat Arms Trainer, honorably discharged in 1997. His anticipated start date is July 1, 2026.
